Challenges

My experience with challenges would be passing or turning in tests, quizzes, projects, assignments, participating in dance performances, or anything that took up a big portion of my grade. Another part of challenges would be temptations which I would describe as the times where I thought of giving up, not going to school, or not putting my full potential into these challenges.

This experience illustrates challenges in my first semester because it's tough doing these school requirements while trying to manage time, understanding what I'm doing in these assignments, etc. It's tough completing and going up to the standards the teacher is supposed to teach at the end of the term.

Call to Adventure

My experience with call to adventure would be going to dance auditions in April which was before I even started high school to try and get a spot on the Cavalier Elite team due to my past history of dance which one of the coaches, Mr. Michael had encouraged me to do.

This experience demonstrates the first step of the hero's journey because it marks the beginning of my high school career which I know I will be doing for as long as I possibly can and improving along the way as the years go by. In the call to adventure it is required to accept the mission which I happily did by confirming my spot on the team to the director, Amanda.

Call to Adventure - Mentor

Katniss Everdeen's call to adventure was accepting taking the place of her sister, Primrose, at the reaping for the 74th hunger games.

This experience captures the essence of call to adventure because it marks the start of Katniss' destiny to become the mockingjay and led the districts to independence from the Capitol which she doesn't know she'll be doing until later on.

Challenges - Mentor

The challenges Katniss has to overcome is making alliances, winning over sponsors, and getting a high evaluation from the game makers.

These things are challenges for Katniss because she doesn't enjoy the presence of most people, needs to make sponsors love her appearance in the chariot ride in order for them to help her survive in the arena, and impressing the game makers with her archery skills will make her look good in front of all of panem.

Crossing the Threshold

My experience with crossing the threshold is going from San Marcos Middle School to San Marcos High School.

This portrays the idea of crossing the threshold because I'm going to a whole new campus with new people and unfamiliar surroundings.

Katniss' crossing of the threshold to the unknown world would be going on the train ride from District 12 to the Capitol/arena.

This illustrates crossing the threshold because she's going from the mundane world to an unfamiliar place where she will begin her quest.

Abyss

My experience with the abyss would have to be trying to survive the last week of first semester, or finals week.

This connects with the step of the hero's journey, abyss because the death represents all the stress and hard work students have to go through with studying, final projects, and tests. The rebirth represents the relief of getting a break from school work, also known as winter break.

Katniss' abyss would be in the middle of the games when Rue died and when she went to go searching for Peeta.

During the games, when Rue died, it had an enormous impact on Katniss because she developed such a strong relationship with her. Once Haymitch convinced Seneca to let two tributes from the same districts to be crowned as victors, Katniss realized that this is the opportunity to win the games for her family and Rue avenge her death with Peeta.
