King Cotton means that the south can break away from the north and not give them their cotton to them which makes up 59% of their economy. Cotton made America the most wealthy.
Slavery made so much money because the slaves were not paid.

Write local laws just for black people to show that black people are less then white people.
Military had to enforce these laws because people in the south would not have any black representatives even though much of their population was black.

Schools were built in the south to help African Americans  (also poor whites) read and write.

Sharecropping was made: a farmer with no money goes to a guy who owns a farm and asks to farm in his farm, he uses owners money to buy seeds and uses his tools. Some of the crops that he produces has to go to owner.
The reconstruction of the US lasted from 1865-1877

Only reason markets could work so well was because there was such a high demand for products.
