The myth about “chewing gum takes seven years to be digested” because the gum stays stuck in the stomach and it takes a long time to leave the body, which is mostly telled by the parents to their children to avoid them swallowing it. This myth has been told for a lot of years, it started because of the lack of information that people used to have and the limited access from medical information, especially the moms.

Based on Rodger Liddle (on the website Scientific American), a gastroenterologist at the Duke University School of Medicine, nothing that is ingested could resist on the stomach for a long time, it meant that for something to last for many years it should be very large or be trapped in the intestine, and the last one usually is treated fast, because it can cause a lot of problems.
