How do the changes shown in the “evolution” of this book reflect what is going on at large in society/American culture? Give a specific example.

You can see that our world has changed a ton just by looking at the pictures. For example on the cover page it circled the police man verse the police officer, that shows that they are trying not to stereotype people with what is more common. Most likely back then man police officers were more common than women police officers so, that probably is why they had police man on there. When they created the new version I think that they were focusing on not trying to stereotype certain people into certain things. This shows that our world has changed because they kind of made a new updated version of the book just so they would not be assuming things.

This change is a change that has to do with equal men and women rights. The example is a cat in a burning building. The label is 'beautiful screaming lady'. Now it is 'cat in danger'. The reason that they changed this was because men are not called beautiful. This is stereotypical because why is there a beautiful lady when there can be a handsome man. They made it equal for men and women.

Our world has changed so much over the years. You can see it in old books that have been re done. In this book the first picture is shown with only a lady cooking that is labeled mother but in the newer book the picture is shown with a woman and man cooking in the kitchen with the man labeled father. This is because it's not just women that cook the meals, it's both. Men and women get stereotyped so much these days that it would be wrong for an illustrator to just draw a lady cooking in the kitchen. Gender equality is becoming a bigger deal in society now because stereotyping is becoming a big deal.

The changes that the book undergoes involve equality and the evolution of equality because things that were normal back then can be considered offensive now. More women and men are taking a stand against gender inequality, and it shows in the books examples. In the first edition, they usually save the outdoor jobs for men, and the inside jobs for women. But in the current edition, both genders are represented equally. A lot of holidays weren't represented in the first edition, such as Chanukah, but they are represented now. It shows how people and their views have changed because a lot of things that have changed in the book have changed with the minds of the people creating it.

This world has changed a lot. We find an offense of stereotypes and even being called by looks. Like for example they have a dad cooking and not stereotyping the mom only cooks. Or they have pretty stewardess and now they have flight attendant. First of all usually pretty they are talking about girls. Not all flight attendants are girls. I think being called pretty can be flattering but you shouldn't stereotype a flight attendant. So honestly I think back then, they stereotyped a lot and they speak up. Now we speak up and do take that in and call the person out. Also I feel like the gender thing is complicated. We don't stereotype as much, but take an example like guys get paid more than girls, even though they could be working and doing the exact same thing. That's now. We are still somewhat stereotyping. Like how guys have to be stronger than girls, that's also not true. Honestly genders are still stereotyped today.

The modern version of the story is less stereotypical. In the 50s version of the book, a screaming cat is labeled "beautiful screaming lady". In typical 50s movies, I guess the ladies that are screaming are usually beautiful, but what if I wanna scream and not look beautiful? In the most recent version of the book, however, they have changed the label to "cat in danger". Even though I like to think I don't look like a cat when I'm in danger, it is stating the picture like people would take it in society right now.

In these examples is shows that the labels have changed from having one with a specific gender in it to now being open and that it could be either gender. For example the picture of the cats jumping from a building on fire from the 50's had a label of fireman down at the bottom but now the newer updated one says firefighter, suggesting that it doesn't have to be a man. This shows that our society now has changed from back then because they use to have a certain genders do certain jobs but now anyone can do it because people in the modern world would find it sexist to have a gender be entitled to a job.

In the first picture on the website, the older book shows a women doing all the cooking and in the newer one they have a women and a man cooking, showing that any gender can do anything the opposite gender can do. Another example in this book is, in the older book they have a mailman which is basically saying only men can deliver mail. In the newer book it shows that the name is a letter carrier which shows it can be a women or a male who delivers mail.
