The Union troops were surprised at 1st  but ended up  gathering themselves to fight back eventually making the Confederate forces retreat. The battle was very bloody, with over 23,000 soldiers killed, wounded, or missing.</p>]]></description>

General Grant and his soldiers took over important places like Corinth (a town in mississippi ). The high number of deaths and injuries made both sides rethink their leaders and battle plans. The Union's win at Shiloh helped them control the Mississippi Valley, which was really important for their plan to divide the Confederacy.</p>]]></description>
