Curley's wife is using her status to intimidate and belittle crooks. She also threatens to have him lynched by the mob, which indicates the racial discrimination of that era.

This a description of the boss. We see here that by the way he is standing and through what he is wearing, he is a higher class and has higher respect from everyone.

Crooks is forced to live all by himself, as the other workers don;t want to have to be near him. They seem him as below them. He is above no one in the ranch. This is because he is black. He doesn't want Lennie in his room because Lenny is white, and he thinks that white people will just boss him around because they're above him.

We see here that because of her well care and her high placement, she is automatically given attention and  has the way of manipulating the minds that she knows she can. Like Lennie. She knows that he's not the smartest of the pack so she goes after him. But, since she is at the top, she can talk to them like she's talking down to them.
