Ever since humans first lived together in villages, there was a spreading disease. For centuries people died and suffered from illness and plagues without understanding the causes of these sicknesses. A plague that believed to be a sign of Gods anger was spread during the mid fourteenth century AD in Asia, Europe and Africa. the disease developed from fleas which fed upon rats that had the bacterium Yersinia pestis in its bloodstream. the fleas would bite the host, a rat was most common, the rat would then either die from the disease then the fleas would move to the nearest new host. The new host being a human would get infected and usually would die within a few days. That was how the black death would work.

SOURCE:
Pearson History 8 page 478-479

The impact on the infected people were terrible. Victims of the plague would barely last 3-5 days, the side effects are shown in the video below. They usually include intense fever which would make them weak, vomiting, their lymph's would swell and finally burst, black would grow on their nails and feet.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7OWLohZ_fs

SOURCE:
knowledge, video (link above), picture (below)

The plague got to anyone possible, old, young the rich and the poor, it didn't matter who you were nothing could stop the plague from infecting you. the plague had a large effect on the society, in total roughly 25-35 million people died from the plague from all around the world. the plague caused people to withdraw themselves from the world. the plague brought despair among the survivors, they would question God and wonder why he would bring something like this amongst them and why the disease killed even the people who worshiped him. Society then started accusing the Jews as they had barely any people dying.

SOURCE:
https://themedievalera.wikispaces.com/The+Black+Death+-+Social+Effects

The Europeans accused the Jews for the cause of the black death, violence increased as time passed. they were accused for putting bacteria in their water and witchcraft. they persecuted the Jews in hopes of ending the plague, this only created more deaths and didn't end the plague. in the picture below it shows a European enemy burning a pile of Jews trying to reduce risk of plague, which failed because the Jews didn't do anything. The Jewish practises requires sanitary practises like washing your hands many times a day, which made the risk of getting the plague much less as an estimated 20% of their population were effected by it.

SOURCE:
http://www.jewishhistory.org/the-black-death/
