Activating Strategy - Multiple Perspective
Activating Strategy - Multiple Perspective
B. Simonetti
The strategy used helped students start up an unconventional conversation about how others see the world. In this activity, students were asked to look at a picture and to describe how the person might feel. Here is a snipping of the lesson:
"
During our South American unit, which includes the Amazon Rainforest, students were introduced to a group of indigenous people who are unaccustomed to the luxuries and technology of “civilized” society. Students were asked to consider the viewpoint of the tribespeople in the picture above. By examining the facial features of each tribesperson, students offered the following input in terms of emotions:

Surprise

Curiosity

Wonder

Fear

Uncertainty

Ultimately, classes agreed that the tribespeople, who were being filmed and photographed by a drone, were either unfamiliar with the technology hovering above them, or if they had seen it before, did not understand its purpose or origin.
"

This strategy is used to guide students towards asking higher level questions. During class student grab a stick from a jar of pre-made DOK 1,2, 3, and 4 level questions. As student progress through the lesson, student can use the prompts on the sticks to help guide their questioning. This technique is good for all ability levels.

D. Young
Students were given a topic to research and wrote a 20 second (5-7 sentence) summary script. After writing the script and practicing it, they then shared it with their partners, who had the same topic.
The students then collaborated to write a new script which included both of their ideas and input. The script was then loaded onto Padlet were all of the students could view their summary.

Each group of two had their own topics which related to an overall topic. The picture below shows student generated work relating to this strategy.
