They were given jobs in public work such as construction of schools, hospitals, planting trees and repairing roads.

+ve: They were paid and given food, and some aspects of life improved compared to the sufferings during the Great Depression.

-ve: conditions were not great for work. They had to live in camps and parade while their received low pays and poor food.

Positive- there aren’t any positives of being a Jew living in nazi germany during the world war, except the Jews who were saved by Oskar Schindler’s

• life was dangerous as many minorities were killed off

• shunned by the Germans, feel excluded from society

• many catholic priest were sent to concentration camps

• Catholic schools were brought under control of Nazi and were shut down

• Groups like Catholic youth league was banned

• Faced many hardships

• The internal conflict because of your own beliefs and having to “hide them” in order to not get in trouble

• many Christians (4/6) who remained neutral were treated normally by the Nazi party not seen as a threat.

• Many feared the Nazi so they did not act out and laid low. Nothing happened to those people

• The church took care of the Christians when the conflicts were something to do with the church but did not when it was a political matter

• Could gather immense police and military power

• Won’t have to live in fear

• Given a free reign on their activities

• Harrass and imprison any potential opponents of the nazi party

Negatives:

• the SS killed the SA leader—SA were killed without trial, therefore not justifiable

Can chillax a bit more at home: cannot work so no need to work

Learn more about useful domestic skills (more easily): subsidies and specific schools provided

Traditional role: good mothers and spouses, domestic skills (cleaning, sewing, cooking etc.)

Scared: will kill anybody who opposes Hitler.👆From above, have no choice but to assume traditional role (no job, no income/want to continue job, but cannot/want to study, but also cannot) because of Hitler’s ‘ruling country with an iron fist’.

-Being part of the bdm allows for opportunities to partake in music and sport activities, which can improve mental well being.

-Experiencing motherhood can be personally fulfilling.

-Being awarded a medallion and claiming interest-free loans for having children.

-Mothers with many children are considered ‘national heroes’, which I might feel honoured by.

-Working when women were made to enter the workforce can allow me to get income, even if it is not a lot of money.

The negatives are:

-forced sterilisation, being banned from using contraception and abortion although it should be a personal choice. Not being allowed to even discuss birth control as well can put a strain on well-being/make me feel like I have no freedom of speech.

-persecution for resisting/being ‘biologically inferior’ (not being able to have children)

-If I were non-Aryan, I would be encouraged to have an abortion, which can be emotionally challenging.

-If I had a disease/handicap, I would not be allowed to marry someone whom I love, which can make me very sad.

-If I were a single/working woman, I would be viewed as part of the second class and ‘subjects of the state’, which is the same legal status as the Jews and mentally infirm. This can be demoralising and make me feel disrespected.

-Being accomplices/organisers/murderers during the Holocaust can be traumatising.

-Not being able to afford the bdm uniform will have me be singled out, which is unpleasant.

-I would have been forced to resign from my job, and prohibited from working as judges, lawyers, or other professions that were high ranking/influential. This can make me very upset as I have no choice in my career when I might be interested in those fields.

-University and college was highly restricted, leading me to be most likely unable to receive proper/higher education.

-Makeup and ‘unfeminine’ hairstyles were discouraged, when this should be in my control only.
