Brain breaks are a chance for students to recharge, take a step back, and regain focus through an activity. Some activities include dance breaks with guided routines, yoga poses, quiet time, or full class games such as Simon Says or Bingo. This supports children's wellness and overall wellbeing when in the classroom. It helps children not feel overworked and know it's okay to take a break when they need to regain focus.

PBS shared a strategy known as "Belly Breathing." This is tool meant to help students who may be feeling anxious, stressed, or overwhelmed and need a way to calm down. It involves creating awareness of how our body feels and how they are feeling mentally. Students start by breathing normally and noticing their surroundings. They lay on their back and relax their body with their hands on their belly. Mouth closed, they breath in for four seconds, have their chest get filled with air, and hold the air for four seconds. Lastly, the child exhales slowly and repeat a few times until they return back to relaxation. This strategy gives students an important tool to use when dealing with big feelings and noticing how much better they will feel.

Active listening helps students learn the importance of using our bodies to show we are listening and care about what is being said. Using gestures like nodding, giving a thumbs up, facing our body forward, and asking questions shows we understand what is being said and we can learn from it. Students should know that what they are sharing is important, and this strategy will remind students how we should be behaving when others are talking and being respectful.

They can talk about their traditional clothing, food, and celebrations they take part in through an interactive project. This helps students reflect on their identity and embrace where they come from by sharing it with their peers. It also creates a welcoming learning environment and inviting students to learn about cultures they may not know about. It brings awareness and acceptance in order to create a positive dynamic in the classroom that loves everyone for who they are.

Especially for students who are ESL or may have a learning disability, visuals help put things into perspective and not focusing on words. It familiarizes students with a story and make up their own interpretations. Students can share what they think the story will be about using the pictures as evidence and describing their reasoning. After, we will have a class discussion on what was correct and what wasn't. Pictures can have many interpretations, and no one will be wrong for making up predictions or giving their input.

The teacher reviews common hand signals for things like "restroom" "comment" or "help." That way, students don't have to wait to be called on in order to share what they have to say, but give a hand signal to show what they need. It builds good expressive language, communication and participation in lessons, and gaining new perspectives. Incorporating role playing and theatre aspects is an engaging way for children to learn about a topic and make them more willing to learn. I would incorporate plays into this and build on skills such as memorizing lines, research on a historical figure they are playing, and building self esteem.

Self Assessments lets students take control of their own learning and be active learners in the classroom. It builds a student center approach by giving students the opportunity to write down and reflect on their progress and if they need additional help. I would give options for students to choose from like "I need some more practice" or "I really get it and could help explain it to another student". This would be given at the end of each unit to properly assess students and give them feedback based on the responses they gave me. Students learn the importance of responsibility and reaching out when they need help. Especially if students are shy, this is a nonverbal form of communication to keep in touch with students and change an instructional approach.

In order to practice and remind students the importance of kindness, I will give either worksheets with ways to be kind, or activities that practice how to spread kindness. It will encourage students to do something nice for someone and make sure others feel supported and appreciated in the classroom. I will ask them for their own input and give ideas on what they plan to do something nice for someone. This supports my approach to teaching because this builds relationships and trust amongst students and demonstrating the importance of being kind.

Activity centers break way from traditional learning and allows students to have active learning engagement. It fosters children's creativity, practice skills from lessons, and work in small groups while providing individual work. This gives students the opportunity to express their thinking and be actively participating in various activities relating to a topic in a lesson. It gives students a new way to look at subjects and enhances their understanding that shifts away from standard teaching methods.

Students working together in small groups on an assignment or to solve a problem builds communication and developmental skills. Students are able to gain new perspectives coming directly from their peers and make executive decisions together. It can also be used for educational games to learn the importance of team work and listening to everyone's ideas besides your own. This supports my approach to teaching by giving students the freedom to be in charge of their learning and working with peers towards a goal. If student's are struggling, this is also a way for peer teaching to take place and student's to help one another.

There will be a designated student who will be the "greeter" of the week. Before students enter the classroom, they will choose what kind of greeting they would like to receive from that student. It gives students choices, the opportunity to set boundaries, and form a bond with their peers. It is a way for students to become more connected and feel a sense of belonging and community in the classroom. This supports my approach to teaching because I want students to develop nonverbal communication strategies and have the chance to be a leader.

Instead of only sending letters or making calls about students to parents when they are in trouble, positive praise and notes will build a stronger sense of connection amongst families. Children will recognize that their productive and positive actions result in praise and feedback. Their ability to behave properly is noticed by the teacher and is made clear to their parents. In order to continue to receive good notes, students will continue following the rules and know their parents are aware of how they are behaving. This not only involves the parents more, but makes students know that their parent's care about their progress and the good they are doing in class.

Students work with a partner to answer a question or solve a problem. They first think about the information on their own, pair up with a classmate, and share ideas and opinions together. It builds communication skills, engagement with others, and learning how to build off of other's ideas and support their thinking. Conversations are how students learn new information and hear ideas from other people. It gives students the opportunity to reflect on the instruction and teachers can monitor the conversations. It can be used for any subject whether it's talking about characters in a story, solving a math problem, or making a prediction of a science experiment.

Rules and expectations in the classroom help students stay safe and hold themselves accountable for their actions. Implementing this into the daily routine reminds students how they should be behaving and creating a safe and productive learning environment for everyone. If students do not choose to follow the rules, they know their actions will have consequences. These rules are meant to benefit them and keep everyone on the right track. Students can even create their own rules or add ideas to what they believe will help the classroom work together better. Student involvement makes students more likely to follow the rules and make minimal disruptions.
