During the times in which this hysteric method of living life, people would take regular contingencies, coincidences and other irregularities, and accuse those in question of witchcraft. The United States, to counteract the potential decline of Capitalism would do all things in its power to erase all thoughts, acts, or whiffs of communist ideas. During this time in Cold War, The Un-American Activities Committee, was a committee used to determine which celebrities and people of power are communists. If the committee determined them Communist, they would become outcasts within a society they once thrived. One of his most famous works was The Crucible, a play written about the Salem Witch Trials, but originally meant to point out the hypocrisy that Miller found within the UAC (Un-American Activities Committee). He declared the radicality of the Committee, in terms of declaring someone as communist or not, to be a witchhunt. Miller went to Salem in order to learn about the Salem witch hunt, to further point out the hypocrisy of the UAC. Later, he would end up publishing the Crucible, and at first, reviews were low because people did not want to be associated with supposed communist content. The Puritans look for a more simplistic way of life centered around serving god. The Puritan Movement started in the Church of England where many places around Europe and parts of Africa would reject their way of life, to the point that they would find themselves at Plymouth Rock. Every aspect that they would live their lives by was simple, the clothing they wore, the way they spoke and wrote. This theological system emphasizes the grace of god and the doctrine of predestination. Predestination is the belief that once you are born, that God has already decided where you will go when you die. Puritans shared the Calvinist beliefs, consisting of predestination, grace, total depravity, and limited atonement. Because the Puritans were a theocracy, a community governed by religious beliefs or essentially run by God, the Calvinistic belief of witchcraft directly contributed to the to the witchhunt.
