“If certain students don’t understand the instructor or if one teacher is having an issue delivering the content, a co-teacher will spring into action to support the peer”. Chapter 5 pg 84.

I choose this quote because I have personally benefited from having two teachers in the classroom. Sometimes hearing the same thing in different words or having it presented a different way is beneficial. If there is just one teacher in the classroom the lesson cannot come to a complete halt to help one student who is completely lost. With the help of the other teacher who is not giving the lesson, the class has the ability to ask that teacher whatever questions or concerns they have. Also this teacher can help with classroom management so the instructor does not have to be distracted when they address the behaviors.

Video: I choose this video because the two teachers who are working together are able to have a good relationship as co-teachers. The general education teacher uses language such as “our classroom" and "our students". The students are able to see that sort of partnership and can model after them. If the teachers disagree on something, the students can see how the teachers manage that. They say that co-teaching is like a marriage and they need to first get to know each other’s backgrounds how they think so they have an effective co-teaching(marriage).

“ ‘I am the class lab equipment distributor,’ she went on to say. ‘If I didn’t come to school, who was going to give out the lab equipment? I had to cancel.’Chapter 6 pg 104

In this passage, the author shows the way his student took her classroom job with all seriousness. I personally have not thought about students taking their jobs with serious but this chapter opened up my eyes. The student went to the extent of cancelling her plans of going to Disney with her father in order to be able to fulfill her responsibilities in school. It shows me that there are students who take their education and the education of others very seriously. With that said I believe it’s important to respect that sense of responsibility for education that students develops.
Video: I chose this video of a Disney World commercial because this is all the activities the student will miss for cancelling her trip. If she did not take her job of material manager during science at school serious, then she would have just went on vacation with her father. This decision seemed to have been an easy one because she did not seem upset when her teacher asked her why she did not go on the trip.

“The teacher’s task is to let students know how important they are and how essential their jobs and roles are to the functioning of the classroom.” Chapter 6 pg 106

This quote stood out to me because I believe that if a teacher tells the class how important they are and that they mattter, the students will be more motivated on attending class. If we tell students they are not valued or we do not notice their absence they will not want to come to our class. We should acknowledge absences and tell them the class missed them as well. Our jobs is to create that safe space for them because sometimes we do not know what goes on outside of school.
Video: This video came to mind when I was reading this passage. Developing some sort of mantra for our class can create a sense of community amongst the students and the teacher. The lady in the video has rehearsed with the child that phrase so many times that the child repeats what she is saying with a smile. The smile is an indication that she believes she is important, smart, and kind. Teachers should be able to apply this into their classrooms.
