Connection: The use of social media-like sites in the classroom is rising. Classcraft is a good example of how students can interact outside of the classroom in a more informal setting.

It can help them enhance their skills, confidence and abilities. They were able to become part of a group and feel like a community.
Connection: I had an ELL student who had just moved from Syria and spoke little to no English. My teacher said reading and flash cards will help the student enhance their English abilities. Sydney B]]> 2017-05-24 00:51:25 UTC https://padlet.com/LJMorrison/10mbd6vd7ijg/wish/173517812 Rachel Bureau https://padlet.com/LJMorrison/10mbd6vd7ijg/wish/173517836 -       An observation that I had about the article that I liked was the point on page 611 where they are talking about how online environments can create an identity for the student that “facilitates the kind of posturing, performance, and social interaction necessary in adolescent’s identity construction process.” I often forget that a students building up their identity lens involves their presence online and how not being connected to or making a personal profile can hinder the way that they are socially accepted within their peer groups—potentially.

Connection: One thing that always surprises me is when we are talking about the importance about digital literacies being incorporated in the classroom and then there is one teacher or a few teachers who shy away from this, and think it isn't that important. I think that it is very important to be able to give our students the tools to use an educated lens when sifting through the millions of information available to them at their finger tips.

Connection = During my placement, a student used an app that gave her the ability to place words in English into her first language. Used on her tests and activities. I'm not sure how to connect to online because I don't have any experience in.

It is awesome to see some of these tools helping with social interactions for students.

Surprise: I was surprised that the online interactions translated into increased in class interactions. This has been a hot topic in society with an increase in video games and online forms. The idea of technology ruining communication.
