The battle of Bunker Hill took place on June 17, 1775, British forces eventually won the battle by taking a fortified position on Breed's Hill after three costly assaults, but the colonial militia, despite running out of ammunition, had inflicted such heavy casualties that the British gained a tactical victory at a tremendous cost. The battle, which was actually fought on Breed's Hill, not Bunker Hill, provided a significant morale boost for the American cause and demonstrated that the untrained colonial fighters could stand their own against the superior British Army, thus proving the resolve to fight for independence was real.

The battle of Saratoga was most notable as one of the turning points in the war. The victory of the battle led to British General John Burgoyne's army surrender. This boosted American morale and led to the persuasion of France becoming an official ally. This was a severe blow to Britain as France's joining, along with the army's surrender turned the American Revolution into an unwinnable war for England.
