I think it is true that people group others to decide if they will help them or not. Some people have an instant reaction if they feel like they can relate to the person like looks, hobbies, or such, and they feel the need to help that person. I also think that, in the video, the situation should have been shown with the person falling and lying down with both types of clothes to get a truly accurate test. I have not had an experience that proves or disproves this theory but from what the video we watched shows, I think it's true. The characters in "Cheboygan Day" kinda support this theory as almost everyone except for Owen ignores and avoids Adele even though they don't know who she really is. On the other side, everyone was very nice and wanted to be friends with Claude ever since they moved there.

The theme of "Cheboygan Day" is that peer pressure could lead to bad decisions. For example, after Owen heard about all the other students judging Adele, he begins to do the same. This leads to Adele being alone and having rumors started about her even though she did nothing wrong. In the story, Owen even admits that some of the rumors made about Adele didn't even make any sense, but everyone just went along with it. Overall, this shows that peer pressure can lead to harsh decisions and deeply impact one's feelings.

After reading the story, the message of following the crowd was not very apparent. Throughout most of the story, I didn't understand the point that the author was getting at. I had to reread parts of the story to understand what was going on and the reasoning behind it. For example, I was a bit confused about why Tessie Hutchinson was being stoned until I went back to look at how she acted and what she said throughout the story. Overall, I don't like the direction Shirley Jackson took in revealing the theme of this story.

1. The difference between an in-text citation and a reference list is that in-text citations include the source directly after the information you used from it. On the other hand, a reference list is when all sources are laid out on a page one after another instead of included right in the text.
2. Someone might need to include a reference list or citation in important papers such as in college. If you do not cite sources then you can get a 0 on the paper for plagiarism. Also, if you commit plagiarism during a job, then you can get sued.
