Paragraph 5 states, "In contrast to professional cameras, which are understood as artistic tools used to make recognizable and commodifiable art for the marketplace, cell phones have become everyday objects and, more importantly, political tools to capture state-sanctioned violence against African American men, women, and children." This quote is important because it shows that Chris's cell phone camera flash had a deeper, symbolic meaning in the movie by spreading awareness of racial violence towards African Americans in our every day lives. Phones can spread information extremely fast through social media platforms, which professional cameras cannot.
By Sophia, Danny, Mike and Andrew

1) In other words, McNally emphasizes that the family specifically gets black people to better the lives of other whites. She connects this with being used as a tool, they put their whiteness behind a “mask” to try to hide that they are good people. The family just assumes that because of their white background, makes them superior to which they take over black lives.

2) Ms. Willis goes on about a very compelling thought on what would have happened if she was alive through all of this: “There is an old African proverb that one should never forget: Black women be knowing.”

3) This helped change my perspective into seeing it from a different perspective. By being white, I wouldn’t be able to understand how Chris was feeling the whole time he was at Rose’s house. This is true because there are stereotypes about black men late at night, and that stereotype is danger. But here Poll talks about how this movie is quite the opposite, especially when you take setting into consideration. Chris was in a rich white suburban neighborhood, where there are also stereotypically rich white racist people. Looking at it from Poll’s and Chris’s perspectives, I can see why Chris and Rod were spooked out about the whole situation.

Ms. Willis argues that the role of black women in Get Out is important because they each play a significant role in the movie's different themes, and all connect to each other in one way or another.

Ms. Willis asserts, “Georgina is every black woman that has lived up to this stereotype while simultaneously being cut down by it. She is every black woman who has fought or is fighting despite being constantly pushed down.”

Plainly put, the black women in Get Out should be in the thought of more people. Georgina was the only character who could seemingly go back to her old consciousness without having a flash of light shown to her face. She was struggling to escape the mindset she was in, and was shut down every time, and was trying to push through the struggle she was in.
