As an Artist

First of all, I am an artist. I create art both using tools I've found online, in addition to the classic pencil and paper. Everywhere, but especially in America, there are artists looking to show their art to the rest of the world. Here we have art museums and galleries, but art is everywhere, like murals on the side of a building, or even graffiti on a wall. More recently, we have the internet, where artists come together to inspire each other, and give each other advice and admiration. The two pictures below are from the Museum of Modern Art in San Francisco, as well as a sample of my own digital art, which, just as in a museum, I've put on display for the world to see. In this way, exhibiting my art connects me to every artist brave enough to show off their passion, as well as presenting my individuality through my art. Source for Photo #1: http://aasarchitecture.com/2016/05/expansion-san-francisco-museum-modern-art-snohetta.html/expansion-to-the-san-francisco-museum-of-modern-art-by-snohetta-19 Source for Photo #2: Me!

As a Member of the LGBT Community

Next, I am a member of the LGBT community. Much like being a woman in America, there has been a long struggle for equality within my community. Also similar is our internal struggle, where we have often asked the question of who truly belongs in our community and who doesn't. Despite these conflicts, I've found that the LGBT community perfectly embodies the idea that Anna Quindlen wrote about when she said America is a "Splintered whole". Though there is a large emphasis on individualism and creating your own identity, like a quilt, we should also remember the one identity that has brought us together. Source for Photo #1: http://www.fourthavenue.org/tucsons-pride-parade-fourth-avenue/

Secondly, I am a part of what is recently known as "Generation Z". My generation has recently come into the spotlight because of protests and political debates. Below, a very recent protest, "March For Our Lives", is pictured. For some, this is a troubling idea, and for others, hope for the future. As an activist myself, I am honored by this identity and hope it is a sign for change to come. Photo #1 Source: https://www.elitedaily.com/p/how-to-donate-to-the-march-for-our-lives-if-you-cant-get-to-the-march-8279289

Third of all, I am a woman. Being a woman in America is an ever-changing identity. Whether it was when women had to march for the right to vote, or the very recent "Me Too" and "Time's Up" movement, being a woman in America always seems to be a battle for equality. Even so, American women also have many rights in comparison to women in other countries. In the end, this is only more reason for our community to band together and ensure that our voices are not only heard in America, but around the world. Photo #1 Source: https://store.timesupnow.com/products/logo-pin

As an Aspiring Doctor

Fourthly, I am planning on becoming a doctor. As I have previously stated, I enjoy being a part of a community, as well as helping it. In my mind, there are not many better ways to aid a community than to physically repair those who need the help. The medical professionals that work in the military and underserved communities are, in my opinion, some of the most admirable amongst Americans. Furthermore, giving care to others can connect people, and prove that, no matter how different people are, they still respect and appreciate each other. Source for Photo #1: http://www.zimbio.com/pictures/4Fp7i6LD5vd/Military+Chaplains+Travel+Afghan+Battlefield/pui0oraNCtT/Charles+Hodges

As a Person Born in America

Finally, I was born in the United States. As such, I've found that those of born here do not give as much thought to the idea of being "American". As E.B. White states, "Whether it is a farmer arriving from Italy to set up a small grocery store in a slum, or a young girl arriving from a small town in Mississippi to escape the indignity of being observed by her neighbors, or a boy arriving from the Corn Belt with a manuscript in his suitcase and a pain in his heart, it makes no difference: each embraces New York with the intense excitement of first love, each absorbs New York with the fresh yes of an adventurer, each generates heat and light to dwarf the Consolidated Edison Company." Maybe it is because
America is so diverse that being an American cannot be defined. In my experience, being an American is truly the only geographic identity I possess. I haven't the slightest clue if I'm from Germany or Russia or Italy, but I know I am an American, and that is a beautifully enigmatic identity to have. Source for photo #1: http://harpercollins.tumblr.com/post/104332388981/this-month-in-1949-harper-published-eb-whites
