This poem contrast to the viewpoint from the Odyssey because in the Odyssey Penelope is not the main character or point in the book. The Odyssey focuses more on Odysseus and his struggles and pain he had endured through the journeys he had ventured. I also conveys a different perspective in the poem and the story.

The poem is trying to portray that Penelope has to endure pain and struggles while Odysseys is away. It also explains that Odysseys cried to gain attention while Penelope cried her soul out.
"He learned it from Penelope…
Penelope, who really cried."

The title already gives you the idea that there would be a gesture being made within the poem, which is accurate. Yet, the gesture is beyond what the word gesture means. And ancient doesn't necessarily mean old, in the poem, it means more rare, hasn't been done in a long time.
