I think the topics today might have been more valuable than one might realize in the moment. Today we discussed the tools, the how to regarding starting international cooperative projects. Something that I think will be important to every school. John Donne wrote "No man is an island" a few years from the time Mayflower reached the shores of America. That is still true today but more than that, it is true for teachers as well as schools as organisations. You can't grow unless you stretch out. Courses like this shows that even if we come from different cultural backgrounds, school systems, different roles and so on, it is still like there is a common passion for growth, a growth as much personal as for your students getting something better. That is a strong fundament to build something on, a better future for our students if everything goes like we want to.

Yesterday we talked about breaking a big goal into little doable tasks – and today we did just that. The big term „internationalization of curriculum“ might sound a little overwhelming, but going through the different steps it takes to establish international projects into our school life made it much more approachable. It really stuck with me that Rita encouraged us to take our time in planning and realizing our aims. And to establish a reliable connection/ relationship to the teachers involved in the project. I‘m all in for reliability and accountability- a goal I also have to work on for myself. I already have some ideas for international projects I think our teachers and students could really benefit from- but I also learned to strongly listen to what the students are interested in before planning a project.

While filling out the audit template on international activities in the current curriculum, Dajana and I disussed in which easy ways we could improve our school‘s performance on that field. One conclusion we came to was, that teachers have to develop a „mindset of an international citizen“. With this mindset a teacher can use everyday opportunities like talking about a specific issue and include a global perspective.

Of course, teachers also have to develop that mindset- it can hardly be only learned from books. What might be appearing like an extraordinary luxury for us now- participating in a teacher training in a culture very different from ours- could soon be (hopefully) a valued and maybe even required addition to a teacher‘s education.

As Germany is a country of immigration and our school has a majority of students with a migrational background a lot of „intercultural competence“ is requested from our teachers and students. Participating in international activities and getting to know different perspectives and approaches on life can foster this important skill and lead to a more peaceful and understanding day-to-day life in and out of school.

Todays topic was the need of internationalisation of curriculum and the possibilities to realize it in school.

I think there is no way to continue working in school without thinking about internationalisation. Not only because the students and teachers get more and more multicultural but also because there are so many things we can share and learn from each other. So why should we stay lone fighters?

During our discussion I also learnt that is it not necessary to do big changes or projects. I mean there is nothing wrong about dreaming big. But to open up and let international work take place in school there are also the baby steps which count.

And so it was really good to get aware what is already going on in our school and to start developing ideas how to improve our international work only with some small changes here and there. Something I will definitly continue back home.

What comes to internationalising our school today's topic was usefull. We filled in the audit form which we will be using when working with our collegues back home. We are told to organise a workshop or pedagogical cafe after coming back and the form is very suitable for that. I noticed that we actually do a lot in our school already, it won't be a big change. The form makes the action really visible.
Finland is a young nation, unlike Italy. Still, we have intergration problems with our newcomers, such as unemployment and low income. We have received our first refugees in the beginning of 1990s. It's very late comparing to our neighbour country Sweden. However, in my school the amount of pupils with immigrant background is high which means that we have good changes to become more international.

Today's theme was the internationalisation of education. I think the form we were asked to complete can be very useful to improve the quality and effectiveness of our activities as an association, and it also gave us a lot of ideas which we will turn into new projects as soon as we get back home. It was also highly interesting and instructive to listen to the other group members while describing the way they deal with internationalisation issues in their own schools.

Annalisa
Internationalisation is a hard theme because it includes a lot of things to develop. In this session we used a template to explain how our school, in my case, my association deal with this theme. With my association we organised some events to explain what is it but maybe not exactly in the right way so I think template will be very useful for future projects. I'm full of ideas to introduce this important theme and when I will go back I mean to share what I learnt with the other members and I also mean to collaborate with schools.
It would be interesting because in many Italian cities multiethnicity is comon, for this reason it's important for Italian people to understand what internalisation is and how to become a global citizen.

I think today`s session was very usefull and practical. Internationalisation of the curriculum is such a big issue and big words that we (in the school) need tools to cut it into manageable pieces. That audit template seems to be excellent for that purpose. By answering it`s guestions we can easily see all the things we have allready done and achieved and what topics and sides of the theme we should concentrate next. This is something my school can take advantage right away. So thank you for giving us that usefull tool :)

When thinking that audit template through it comes to my mind that we tend to be too modest sometimes. Internationalisation of the curriculum doesn't allways have to be big and expencive gestures but also small steps count. "Dream big, act small - but act!" Having that certain mindset ja point of view is essential when it comes to bringing internationalisation into our curriculums and in to our classrooms (which hopefully have a door to the world)
