Before taking up the Painting module, my interpretations and appreciation for the painting are too broad and lacking. It was hard for me to interpret actual paintings as well as abstract paintings. I can't see the importance of such art with dull realizations upon seeing them.

WHAT I KNOW NOW.

After taking up the module, I was able to gather more knowledge on how to interpret paintings. The history of painting that we went through helped gave me the idea of how paintings evolve each era and how each style introduced more meaning to the fine art. With the module, I was able to distinguish the movements within the art. I also learned how paintings can become an extension of the artist. For example was when Michelangelo painted an individual he hated in his work "The Last Judgement". The Borgia and the Cambio were also introduced to me as classical conventions that painters use in order to interpret a form of hierarchy or somewhat as seen in Raphael's work. I've also realized why lights and shadows were introduced. I think it gave more realism to the art. In totality, the different elements and styles that came to be, gave different emphasis and meaning to the art. In addition, artists also gave out certain "secret" patterns that has a deeper meaning to the painting itself like the one in The Last Judgement of heaven to the inferno.

Despite having a depth and thorough discussion for this module, I still want to learn of how to interpret abstract painting. This is because, we mostly tackled more on realistic paintings. I also want to understand the history and agenda of why painters painted their piece.
