The Satire Paradox

What Malcom Gladwell means when he is talking about the 'satire paradox' is that satire has the effect to change peoples minds, with the satire becoming absurd it can open people up to thinking that it may actually be true. Using humour and not taking yourself too seriously is key, but drifting over into too much reality can ruin the whole idea, like Tina Fey parodying Sarah Palin but then having Palin herself appear next to the character. It ruins the idea of Satire showing the audience the truth.

The Handmaids tale avoids the Satire Paradox because it is a fictitious novel, it only has themes of real life scenarios, like Nazi Germany and Ireland. It doesn't talk about those things in the book though, it is it's own world and is viewing them as if those actual atrocities didn't happen somewhere in the real world.

An issue that really bothers me is the Illegal trade of the Ivory tusks from animals like Hippos, Narwhals and Elephants, to make change I would most likely do something like Jonathan Swift, propose the trade of human teeth instead of ivory tusks, or make satirical memes about it. Facts like, if you kill all of them for their tusks there won't be any left, they'll go extinct, they need their tusks to live and humans just want them for physical possessions. It's also disgusting and no one should ever treat anything like that.
