This only increased the tensions between the Colonists and the British, a mob in Boston surrounded and verbally abused a British soldier who was then backed up by a group of 7 soldiers led by Captain Preston, the 8 of the soldiers continued to be insulted by the mob until one of them fired without orders which caused the others to shoot. The Sons of Liberty (a revolutionary organization) boarded East India Company ships in the Boston Harbor and threw the chests of tea into the Harbor. The act took away self governance and other rights the colony had. Massachusetts of course did not like the Intolerable Act which would lead to a growing drive to rebel in the colonists that heard of the Act.
