My group mostly used hot glue, bricks and plastic which isn’t the most environmental but it worked the best for us and we didn’t really think of the environment.

My groups Stem Beat The Flood house consisted of many resources such as wood, Lego bricks and hot glue. Our house was located on the milma village with a natural mountain protecting it. We had a main resource of wood due to our lumberjacks and wood cutters

Yes our house had beat the flood because of our strong outer walls and 20% discount on wood flooring. Shilna ( our sodium polyacylate ) survived with minimal blueness on her.

Our most challenging part of the challenge was trying to get a Shilna sized hole for the door (and for it to close )

The most enjoyable part of the build was the hot glue gun and being with my mates trying to make a resolutions to the problems.

We chose the Milma village because it had the highest land. And lots of nature, and we got 20% discount on wood

Shilna happily survived with a little bit on water on her

Our group struggled on getting shilna in the house because she didn’t fit

Our group chose the north east area of Hila. We thought that the glass and plastic wrap would hold the most water out although it is the most environmental because we had thought to do the glass on the top and bottom and our leftovers on the. We also did bricks which for the whole thing which is kind of environmental. They are the materials that we thought would hold off the most amount of water.

Our group thought we did pass because Shilna only had a tiny little bit wet. If we had made a door that could open and close then it might of not had that wetness.

Probably trying to consider how we could save money and get as much bricks as we needed with still having enough money for land and the other materials we had a discount on the bamboo so we did get enough without using as much money as we would without the discount.

The best part about this project was being able to work with my friends, being able to build and learn what we could do better next time and also testing it to see if it would pass or fail.

Our group chose the north east area of Hila. We thought about what is waterproof and what is a good idea we should put under the water proof material. We put bricks around the house which is kind of environmental.

Our group thought we did because Shilna only got a little bit wet and most of her was dry so we think we passed.

Probably considering what materials we should use and what materials are waterproof and what materials would be good for each part. And trying to do a door.

The best part about it was building the house and seeing if it passed or if it failed.

My group mainly used bricks tape and hardwood which is not that good but not too bad for the environment we didn’t think much of the environment just on keeping Shilna alive

I think we passed because we had a working door and a reliable house but our downfall was the space the door and the next wall there was a little gap where the water could get through

The most challenging part was communicating with two of my teammates who were just joking around while me and another mate were planning

The best part about it was seeing if it passed or not and planning was very fun but also hard to do at times but we ended up not even using out whole budget

My group completely disregarded the price limit when choosing materials we also didn’t use our discount on bamboo at all we weren’t very interested in not using environmental products instead we used a lot of hardwood

Shilna was floating on top off the water but dry I don’t think it would off counted because she wanted her books to be dry

The most challenging part was putting the house together since I was away one day I had no idea what the rest off the teem had done not knowing they had gone over budget and missing a door and window

I enjoyed the final step off watching shilna swim in the makeshift house we had made at-least we gave shilna some swimming lessons

We have used about 2-5 leaves to take advantage of their water proof shields, we also used 1 sheet of glass so we can see ‘shilna’ more better and make more accurate predictions and summaries of what will happen.

We have also used 1 piece of a Glue Tube so we can easily fit stuff together and eventually stop the house from flooding. The team has chosen High land for the high land level so we can get away from the flood to not risk the house from flooding. We used corrugated iron for the roof since it is also a very protective material for lots of roofs across flooding countries and farm sheds.

Lastly we used Hard Wood for the walls as it is also very protective and can probably suck up water.

As a Notice I was away for 1 week and missed out on a lot of the lesson and the testing and the building and also the ideas but if I was the I would use bamboo since we have a discount and used the Village Hila the Hila Homes. And I would have used more strong materials, and put concrete in between the gaps of the bamboo to stop flooding, dirt as a platform would also be perfect since it would be a big platform to stop the flood from getting inside the household.

Even though we have used 280$ and over the budget I say cook the books and it’s all okay, on the other hand we have survived since the house has good protection and good materials and also was high level on the ground.

I enjoyed this project even though I was away for 1 week I loved the experimentation and this whole lesson was very good and if I had the chance to do it 100 more times I would do it again.

My group and I selected the materials that we thought would have buoyancy while also selecting materials that were able to withstand an amount of force. Wood was a readily available material for the area that we chose so we used wood in our build quite often. We also used bricks as we thought the air in them would make it float while being sturdy.

I believe that my teams house was not successful as the floating mechanic did not work and Shilna became quite wet. I also believe that there were a few good things in the build like the roof which kept out water efficiently and the walls also kept water out. If we had a better door or the floating mechanic worked I think we would have succeeded.

I found the glue gun hard as I burnt myself multiple times while glueing the materials together.

I believe that my absolute favourite part of the build was the roof as it proved effective when keeping out water. Another thing is the bricks. Although they didn’t float they were effective at keeping water out.

My group and I thought tough, nice and strong materials and mostly picked the materials making sure it’s not over our budget and making sure it is a safe material so Shilna did not get wet, we did Lego bricks, clay, hard plastic also known as “glass”, randomly putted clay pieces on top, and some leafs at the top covering the hard plastic that was our roof.

Our house had beaten the flood and the evidence is Shilna did not get wet because our door was made out of clay so then you can open and close it which led the water not going in the house, the roof was protected by the leaves and random pieces of the clay.

The bricks because it took a lot of our time and making sure it was not over the maximum height or size and not the minimum height or size and it wasn’t that strong and it was small pieces.

Making sure Shilna was safe and sound while watching in horror seeing the water touching the house.

My group considered the materials based on the amount of a budget we had and how we were going to use the materials. The island we chose was located at Milma and got a discount of 20% off of wood which helped us build a sturdy roof to block out excess water. The consideration between multiple materials which were chosen were Lego bricks, clay ,leafs ,pop-sticks, plastic, and hot glue. The hot glue helped benefit our house with flat hard plastic for the base of the house with Lego bricks for the walls and hard wood for the roof.

My group bet the flood because of the compressed surrounding of the small house , which helped a small closed space with a small door that fit Shilna in a tight surrounding ,which helped Shilna not to get wet and survived because of the beneficial door made out of clay that tightened the house. The roof supported the house by the leafs and clay because of the balance of each side.Which made the roof balance each side when the water was tipped.

The hardest part of the project was time and consideration of materials (budget). Strategising bricks were very challenging because of the amount of a budget and bricks we had to use for the exterior and interior. Time was another very challenging part of the project because of lots of other students using hot glue guns for a very long period of time and we had to wait for a very long while.

The best part of the project was planning all our ideas together and combining them into a very beneficial house which succeeded.

Our group materials were, such as, glass, bamboo, hot glue and tape. most frequently we used hot glue. Our hilta house didn’t survive but we tried to consider small amount of money.

How my group and I decided on which materials to use, was we went to the board and felt all the materials to see which ones would benefit us the most with building our house. The island community we chose was The Milma, we decided to chose the Milma because we thought it would be the safest place to go, even though it didn’t really matter in the end. Because we used the Milma we were able to get a 20 percent discount on wood.

Fortunately our house did survive the flood, I think that our house survived the flood because of the materials we decided to use, I think this because overall the materials we use benefited our house in the flood in multiple ways. Because of the glass and Lego Shilna was able to stay protected and have a roof and walls. And because we had leafs and clay we were able to have a safe door and have extra protection on the roof.

I think the hardest part of this project is that we had limited materials and a $220 budget.
